Name: Penelope Jane
Nickname(s): Patches, PJ, Penny J, Penny Jane, Pudgy Jane, Powder Jane, Penny Jenny, quite a few more and always acquiring new ones
Gender: Female
Race/species: Humanoid (I haven't decided if she will be actually human yet--probably will though. I just think we have so many humans already :P But then again I already have an alien. Bah.)
Desired position on ship: Engineer/deckhand. (I believe Anya is "head engineer" so PJ would just be working under her, I think)
Physical: 5'9", 220 lbs, brown hair, brown eyes, freckles, turned up nose and a scar through one eyebrow.
Her hair is particularly interesting: dreaded and braided, each pierced several times along its length, wrapped in ribbons and string, and some even have useful objects tied on. Comes down to her shoulders mostly, though a few are longer. (Yes, I totally gave her hair like mine. Thbbpt.)
As you probably noticed, she's a big girl. She's very strong, and she knows how to use it. At 28, she has an unlined face, and she proudly, loudly owes it to having a good portion of fat. She has one cybernetic part but she won't tell anyone what it is.
Appearance: Very post-apocalyptic (holes/rips/tears/doesn't match), but she's been living on a deserted planet alone for two years, so I'm sure she's got her reasons for not looking like Madonna, okay? ;)
Her clothes are a mixture of utilitarian and art; she is down to earth but she is very into having fun, and this means that while her pants have many, many pockets, she has decorated nearly all of them with beads, embroidery, or other adornments.
History: Much like the fabled Anne Bonney, PJ ran away to shack up with a pirate. PJ's man, however, wasn't the captain, and she had to fight a duel to gain a place on board the ship. There was also no crossdressing involved: she is very, VERY obviously female. If her large breasts didn't give her away, her constant giggling certainly would.
Her nickname comes from cloth scraps called "patches" used to pack a musket ball into the barrel so it didn't fall out before the gun fired. Just TRY and get the story out of her. I dare you. She's excellent at hedging.
For awhile, she captained the vessel, having taken charge during a Navy attack and driven the military back after the real captain had fallen.
Three years ago she was marooned on a deserted planet after a disagreement with the crew. At the time, she wasn't sorry, though about six months of no company left her a little sore. She made friends with several native animals, one of which is a very crotchety morph.
He's not nearly as stupid as the one in the movie, though he's not exactly smart either. Really, he's just cranky. He sleeps often in her hair, and when she talks, he makes fun of her above her head. If there is someone else around that somehow rubs him the wrong way, he will move to mocking them instead. His name is "Scrap."
She's still waiting for someone to rescue her.
Personality: She's buoyant, cheerful, friendly, and says whatever is on her mind at any given time. Even if what she has to say is awful, she'll find a nice way to say it so that someone who was just dreadfully insulted will often thank her and only realize a few minutes later what actually happened. She's very, very weird, and she knows it, but she doesn't have time for explaining herself to more mundane people because she's busy being happy and having adventures. People who can't understand her either learn to put up with it, begin to admire it, or think she's gone mad.
She's a vegetarian but doesn't expect others to be, a firm believer in the empowerment of everyone, and she can drink most men into the ground.
PJ is also fiercely loyal to her beliefs and values, and there are many stories of incredible stunts that may or may not be true told by men who have sailed with her and witnessed her in a passion. She's always willing to live and let live as long as there's no harm to others involved. Her temper reminds me somewhat of a female Argus: it takes a LOT to get her angry, but she's a formidable opponent if you manage it.
(In short, I think if you've seen Tank Girl, you understand something of how she is. I personally think she could kick Lori Petty's ass, or maybe they would just have awesome sex. Hard to say.)
P.S. I am NOT Mary-Sue'ing. I think philanthropy is disgusting, and Patches wallows in it. Ugh. :P If anything, she'll be harder and more teeth-grinding to play at times than Shin-sin-fa ever has been.
